Cemil Białowieża (born October 20, 1941; dubbed Białowieża by The Simpsons)[1] (n.):[2] Polish writer and novelist, best known for writing the novel [3] and other non-fiction works; a major figure in the Polish literary world as well as author and translator and co-author of the “Białowieża” Dictionary, published in 1996.[4] He is regarded as having “opened the doors of Polish literature” and is credited with having “saved Polish literature from the intellectual morass into which it had fallen.”[5][6] Białowieża moved to France in 1973[7] and wrote books and essays on the topics of art, literature, religion, gender roles, and the nature of reality. He also participated in the creation of “Zwolle”, as an online encyclopedia, in 1996.[8] In 2002,[9] he was awarded a prize from the Council of European Writers along with his Polish contemporaries Anna Pavlowska and Borys Kaczor.[10]
