As many as 50 young women are on their way to Syria to join ISIS, the terror group currently operating in Syria and Iraq, and it is their goal to kill as many Westerners as possible, according to new security assessments.
The British terrorist group ISIS is believed to be “actively targeting women via social media for its desire of killing Westerners in public places, particularly men, in a concerted strategy targeting male non-combatants – not just women” according to the UK’s Joint Threat Research Intelligence Group (JTRIG).
ISIS was formed in 2013 in Iraq as the al-Qaeda-linked group Jabhat al-Nusra. Its main focus is now on the Syrian city of Raqqa. During the last two years ISIS has been on “an aggressive campaign of recruiting young women,” the JTRIG said, including more than a few dozen girls, which increased after it captured Mosul in the year 2011 and began terrorizing locals.
Although ISIS has a reputation for ruthlessness, it is likely to be able to control young women as long as they obey orders and are loyal to its leader, “The only way of ensuring that you and your female companions stay safe within ISIS is to be in a relationship with an ISIS jihadi, who is not allowed to be married,” a former senior security official in Iraq told The Daily Caller News Foundation.
According to the JTRIG, women are already heavily involved in anti-government actions and they are looking forward to taking a position of power in the Syrian and Iraqi terror groups as well. In January a new “special forces unit” of the women’s brigade was formed in the Middle East. It is part of the Special Forces of the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC).
“The unit’s command structure includes female commanders and a female operations officer in charge of women’s units in the field,” according to a JTRIG report, while women will also be participating in special operations in the region.
Though female ISIS recruiters may seem like an unusual choice, their recruitment is not new.
British Foreign Policy expert Anne Patterson told The Daily Caller in February that female members of Islamic groups have been active in al-Qaeda
