To learn to draw in the first place, it can take up to a year. However, it isn’t always a good idea to try to learn the craft of drawing immediately after a couple of years of practice. You’re likely to be just as good with your first drawing as you’ll be with your last. The process of learning to draw is not meant to be easy, nor is it meant to be quick. The art of drawing actually takes a lifetime.
For example, how long does it take to learn to draw a line of hair, or a tree branch, on an image? It’s probably not going to be as “easy” as some will say. It should take at least a year of time to learn to draw on an image. There are many factors that can influence how quickly a new artist can learn to draw:
The skill level of the artist.
Your artistic development.
The way your brain works.
The motivation to learn new techniques.
The quality of the images that are drawn, from which you learn.
The time you spend learning the technique. If you spend months of time drawing an image, you’re basically only using half of it in the process.
It’s important to note that this is a process. There is no quick “step-by-step” method to learning to draw. There are lots of aspects to the art of drawing that need to be mastered, which means the first year won’t be easy.
Why will all of my best art students be the one with the slow learning curve?
As with anything that takes a lot of time to hone in on, sometimes the slow learners will be all “that guy with his hand raised” who takes it all so slowly that they don’t have the patience to work through the process that a slow learner might have. The slower learners will also come across in a lot of people who think their drawings look great, but they probably won’t be capable of drawing in real life situations like you are.
The problem is that there is no magic key for the slow learners to turn into the speedsters. In addition, there is really no shortcut that you can learn to draw a particular technique in which the other person will turn out all the better.
This is the biggest reason why not every beginner gets to perfect the art that they want to draw. The art for a beginner may be fine for many years, and they may yet master it
