I know it’s not the hottest show in town, but the first episode of the new “True Detective” season seemed like it could have been just as good as the first season of the HBO show. And now that the show has been renewed for a second season, HBO is hoping it will also be as good as the first season of “True Detective.”

As we’ve said before, we’ve all been hyped for the potential “True Detective” revival. So if we’re being fair, we should also be getting a little more excited for the possible return of “True Detective” itself – even if that means some fans will have to get used to hearing this again before the show is actually back. In other words, it’s time to start giving out early “True Detective” scores.

Here are the early “True Detective” scores for season premiere episode 8.1.

1. “Pilot” by Matthew Mercer

The very first scene set the foundation for all of the dramatic, high-octane, tense moments to come. If you’re wondering what to expect out of “True Detective” this season, just put your hands on this soundtrack and try to imagine what the show would sound like if you weren’t in on the first three episodes. It’s fantastic.

2. “A Million Eyes” by Rufus Wainwright & Tim Burgess
