What camera do YouTubers use?

I often get asked what camera I use to record. My main camera is the Lumix GF5. I am also shooting with my SONY GH4 and the Pentax K4. I also use my Panasonic DMC-GF2 II and my Canon K2.

Do you use any software to help edit your videos?

I use YouTube Maker and a camera plugin called VLC for my camera footage. I also use Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere Pro. I really enjoy editing with Premiere and After Effects. I also watch a lot of tutorials on YouTube. These two tools and the plugins make working with my footage much more smooth.

When you create a video, do you have any special considerations about editing it?

When I was making these 2 videos, I did some edits to make the final video stand out more. I edited them at 2 different recording resolutions (1080 & 720p) and different brightness levels. I also did some edits to make my video more cinematic. I think that using the right editing tools made this video stand out from the others.

Who has your music played on?

I like music that’s a little different than the mainstream (think indie or underground). I like bands that have a feel that reminds me of the 70s. You have bands like Deftones, Nine Inch Nails, and Marilyn Manson. However, I also like more “core” music. These are the bands that are putting out albums every year. These bands tend to have an incredible amount of songs that are very well written and just need some serious tweaking.

How do you get your videos uploaded?

These days, a couple of channels make their own YouTube channel so that YouTube knows to promote the videos on here. To make this extra effort, these channels add on other features like more editing and more interesting titles/artwork. I also really enjoy videos on various blogs.

What do you look for when finding content to upload?

I like a short, well edited video that gives a good idea about what you are going to show. You have to keep things fresh because that’s how it’s going to stick on YouTube. If a lot of your videos are just the same few shots, chances are they will fade out.

Do you have any tips for new people uploading videos?

YouTube is a really easy audience to get started with. However, keep some things in mind:

Use good grammar.
