What year did rap start? – Flocabulary Social Studies

It started out in the late sixties, with the album “All-Shook-Up.” It was released by Elektra/Capitol that year. Then, a few years later when they did their debut album, “Rapper’s Delight,” it was really popular. Then you have “Juice” and then the others, which were really popular at the time of when I was growing up, the records of the period, not so much.

We all have to be born, you know? It’s the last thing we know when it comes to these things. When one is born, he is the last person that has ever existed. But then, it changes — one day, I may be the last person to be born, but that’s just an interesting concept, isn’t it?

That’s a great way of putting things, right?

I think it is. I think the thing is, is that music starts when the baby comes out. Everything else is something that evolves over time with the music that one has listened to, especially with people growing up. So, the birth of this particular artist is a thing that’s been happening. I mean, I don’t have any real way of knowing just how early I was, because I would think that if there were a way to know about anything in life outside of it, it would be some type of birth thing.

The one in question was the birth?

There has to be some reason behind it — a reason for it.

I was wondering if you could explain why the name “Lil Uzi Vert” is such a big mystery this year as opposed to last year when I asked you. How long was it before people were calling him “Lil Uzi Vert” with no idea what it meant?

Lil Uzi Vert was born in the summer of ’94. But, then all of a sudden, within a month of “My Name Is” hitting, that’s really where the whole thing started off. People were asking for a song on “My Name Is.” They were just saying, “Are we gonna give you anything like the song that’s already on there or do you want that song on your next album?” And, when that song came out, he took the “My Name Is” project in a completely different direction and said what people were looking for.

Did you really take that project in a different direction?

I don’t know
