There are many different answers to that. When you’re a young kid, it’s about being interested, having fun, and being creative.

Absolutely. But there’s so much diversity in the genre, I get annoyed when they’re comparing the same thing.

Maybe Dizzy Gillespie? No! But there’s one or two that I like.

I love “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.” I just love the melody: “Can’t help but be myself every second, every minute, every second, every minute, every second.”
Do you have a personal favorite?
Yes, definitely. I’ll listen to a song by myself on repeat. Not because I need to be reminded of me (as a person), but because I just enjoy it. I think the song reminds me of how great I am and how I handle myself.
What is the best part about living in New York right now?
Living in New York is so cool. New York’s got it going on all the time. The best part is that it has so much food to choose from. I love being able to cook something for dinner and just eat it. It’s perfect.
What is your favorite non-New York food?
Anything that doesn’t resemble food. There’s a lot of vegan recipes out there and I’ll try them out when I can. But what I really like to cook are desserts. I’m vegan and if I need to cook something for someone, sometimes I’ll just take one of my vegan meals like peanut butter cups and peanut butter with a vanilla bean filling.
If I had the choice to go back to New York as a teenager, would you?
Maybe. I’d like to go back to New York so much, but if I lived in Los Angeles or Chicago, I’d stay closer to home. There’s nothing wrong with being somewhere where you can live. But my parents moved me to Baltimore, which is a little farther away than New York City.
