For this question, I will use prices collected from the music industry, and my own personal experience, for examples. Please note, my experience is from the days when I was a student, and not one of these famous retailers.
Some people have asked me about prices of guitars on Ebay. If the price is in Australian dollars, then I would say we are talking around the $800 mark, or around $150 to $200 per guitar, if you are able to afford it. That is about $10 to $15 per guitar/month, depending on what you are getting into. For those interested, I wrote an article about this exact subject, where I found the price difference between buying online and buying in-store on Amazon to be even more dramatic, with some of my favourite retailers as well. On the other hand, my own experience tends to be a bit more realistic.
Guitar price guide: a quick and dirty guide to determine whether you’re getting a bargain
My guitar lessons have, for the most part, been very affordable. In fact, the price ranges are only slightly higher than an average beginner’s course would cost, even if you put in more work. The prices range between $150 to $200 per guitar, or around $10 to $15 per guitar/month. That is just about the average retail price for the average guitar lesson at any of a few guitar retailers, assuming that you are able to afford them.
A few years ago, I paid about $200 for a 5-day session with a pro (who may or may not have been in my room for the whole time), although I did a lot of listening and playing. My guitar is an inexpensive Fender Strat, and so is my lesson.
However, you should keep in mind that a lot of lessons start at that low base price, and then go on to be much cheaper than that price. I know a lot of people who have been buying their lessons for just £50/$60 ($70 to $92) a pop, but when you consider that all you will be doing is playing songs, you are probably better off with cheaper lessons for a start.
Most guitars, however, start at something far greater! The average price of a new guitar (from a major manufacturer) from 2014 to 2015 was about £9,600 ($15,300, with a bit of a gap due to the Chinese stockist). That is about $29,900, plus
