Every year the city receives over $20 million from the state in grants. Grant awards usually include either a capital improvement, a city-wide improvement, or neighborhood improvement program which can range from $1,300 ($3,500/year) to $24,000 ($7,000/year). Every grant helps address one of Seattle’s biggest challenges. This year, city departments are accepting applications for grants for:


Pedestrian/bicycle/motorcyclist safety

Cyclist/motorcyclist access improvements to the city’s streets

Streetscape or stormwater management

These types of grants are also available to Seattle residents.

How do I get the grants awarded?

Each grant is paid for by the city government itself. Any remaining funds are paid to a community service organization (CSO) in proportion to the grant award.

If you have questions, your best chance is to contact the CSO to obtain a grant application.

How much does it cost?

As the grants are awarded, the City is in the process of creating a budget for the projects funded with grant funds. There are multiple grants and there is no specific application fee associated. However, the CSO is charged all application related processing fees.

When is my application accepted?

Every application is reviewed and received by the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFE) on a rolling basis. The program will open again for applications on a week to week basis.

Applicants should apply by submitting an official, scanned copy of an official City of Seattle application form with their state license.
