The city council will consider a resolution supporting a proposal by the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) to build a new parking garage under the city’s Westheimer Freeway overpass. A DDA spokesperson confirmed their meeting date and location.
When the parking garage is ready for occupancy, parking along the street would be reduced by approximately 800 spaces, according to DDA. Construction is slated to begin in April 2016 and wrap up this year or by 2018, depending on the timing of final approval by the Planning Commission.
DDA estimates that the garage will cost $500 million to construct, but they have not yet announced how the money will be spent on the structure.
