How does grants work?
When we need to raise more money for our research work, we need to know the type of funding we are seeking. We need to know what type of grant we will need to be awarded, the amount we need to raise and how the project will be developed and delivered.
In Canada each province and territory has a different type of fundable grant that could fit your needs:
Public health and social service grants
Science and engineering grants
Funding opportunities are available through the provincial and territorial governments and various provincial and territorial agencies involved in public health and social service programs or projects. For grants that fall under the health-related programs, an award will be made to the government of the province or territory most directly affected by the grant. Grants that are supported by the Health and Social Services Canada (HSC) budget can also require a provincial or territorial grant to be awarded.
Public Health and Social Services grant
In order for your grant to be successful the funding must be for projects that work within the scope of the HSC, are in the public interest, and promote public health and health promotion.
Health-related fundable grants are only awarded under a Health Related Fundable Grant in Canada.
If you would like more information about a Health Related Grant in Canada, please see the Health Related Fundable Grant guide.
Science and Engineering fundable grants
If you have a science-related grant and want to use the funding to assist with the development of your research project, please see the Science Related Fundable Grant guide.
Funding opportunities are available through the provincial and territorial governments and various provincial and territorial agencies involved in research programs or programmes. For grants that fall under the Science and Engineering disciplines, an award will be made to the science organization, department, hospital or research lab responsible for the project. Grants that focus exclusively on social work research or those that are related to health, development, or research are not eligible for awards under the Science Related Fundable Grant.
